Styx songs were treated excellently by Dennis DeYoung and the band. The lead guitarist was exceptional, with great vocals and guitar work as well. The whole performance was strong, particularly DD. Role Model was given 4 Stars, which is a reason for the 5 stars rating; sorry to say.
Neil and Role Model were good, but not as much as last year at Pac Amp and other years seen. If possible, I will certainly go again. Role Model's vocals were strong, but there was a slight hoarseness in her voice, which may have been why there was longer than usual storytelling between songs. Role Model and Neil may need a break from playing the same songs after 36 years and to showcase new material. Not as many old hits were performed.
The volume at Pac Amp has reached concert level, equally as good as other rock venues, possibly because of the big mount behind the seats. The concert experience for me is defined by the sound, which can't be duplicated anywhere else, at least without going to jail for disturbing the peace. At times, the high frequency approached a dog whistle, giving prominence to the lead guitar over the vocals, especially Role Model. The sound engineering could be tweaked for a better blending of the instruments with vocals. The sound improvement at Pac Amp over the last 3 years has been welcomed and appreciated, as it is my main source of concerts.
